Soldier gels the gun

A 22-year-old British soldier, having accepted a dare jto get from his unit to a [village 15 miles away, took the only vehicle he could I find — a giant self-propelled gun. He drove the Abbott gun. one of the British Army’s most expensive pieces of equipment, along a main highway with Army and police vehicles in pursuit. Gunner Bryan Stewart, of the Royal Artillery, pleaded guilty to taking the gun without consent, using it uninsured without a driving licence, failing to stop when requested by police, driving dangerously with excess alcohol, and damaging the gun and two Ministry of Defence gates. Sentence was deferred for six weeks. Asked later what he made! on the dare, he said: “I got I there, didn’t I?”
