Brian Fairlie (New Zealand) and Egypt’s Ismail Shafei were defeated 4-6, 6-7 by Raul Ramirez (Mexico) and ; Brian Gottfried (U.S.) in the doubles final in the $50,000 Old Spice tournament at Mexico City. The 22-year-old Mexican played some erratic tennis, serving without his usual power and making mistakes at the net. However Gottfried, ;24, gave him plenty of support and together they were able to narrowly outscore I their more consistent opponents.
Earlier yesterday Ramirez overcame an uncertain start to beat Eddie Dibbs (U.S.) 7-6, 6-2 to take the singles title.
