Base metals sought on Australian market
Base metals and selected industrial issues advanced to higher levels under strong buying on Australian stock exchanges yesterday.
Peko-Wallsend rose 10c to 566 c, and B.H. South 8c to 170 c. M.I.M. was 7c dearer at 252 c, while Mount Lyell put on 5c at 80c.
C.R.A. continued to ease, but Hamersley was able to recover some of Monday’s loss. Pancontinental added 30c, to reach 1330 c, the first upward movement by the issue since last Wednesday. Woodside-Burmah and Ampol Exploration were a little weaker.
Among the industrials, E.Z. Industries rose 5c to 360 c in sympathy with partner, PekoWallsend. T.N.T. rose 4c to 154 c on its higher results. The National Bank, A.S.L., 8.M.1., Woolworths, Jennings and
Elders G.M. were marginally firmer. C.S.R. recouped part of Monday’s loss, but B.H.P. retreated another 4c to 762 c.
