Quarry for houses
The Isaac Construction Company plans to subdivide into about 22 residential sections a clay quarry opposite the Coca Cola plant on Port Hills Road, Opawa. The managing director of the company (Mr N. Isaac) said yesterday that a subdivision plan for the area had already been lodged with the Heathcote County Council. The plan was prepared by Davie, Lovell-Smith and Partners Mr Isaac said that his company was negotiating to move its clay quarrying operations to Halswell. where theie was a substantial area of land designated for quarrying use. The quarry off Port Hills Road covers about eight acres and a half About six acres and a half of this is already zoned residential The remaining two acres.

Isaac Construction bought the site from Brightlings. which used the clay in a former brickworks nearby.
