Leica Show draws well

Leica Show yesterday had her price cut from 7 to 4 to 6 to 4 favouritism for the $50,400 Newimarket Handicap at Flemington today when she drew No 20 at the barrier in the field of 24 The grandstnad side of the Flemington 1200 m straight, where Leica Show has drawn, was four lengths faster than the flat side at the last Flemington meeting on February 14. But the Flemington racecourse manager, Mr Ron King, said that as far as he was concerned both sides of the track would be the same. “The track is being rolled, and I cannot see any difference m the two sides. "I think a horse that has drawn No. 1 has th e same chance as a horse from No. 24” Mr King said. Tlie top jockey, Roy Higgins, said that No. 20 "sounds pretty good.” He said Leica Show came down the grandstand side of the straight at her last start when she was beaten tn a photo-finish in the Lightning Stakes by the two-year-old fillv Desirable. A three-year-old. Sticks and Stones, second favourite for the big sprint, has drawn No. 22 at the barrier. He is a fast horse and will probably lead that division and at the same time be a big help to his stablemate Leica Show.
