Tunnel traffic falls
The volume of traffic through the ChristchurchLyttelton road tunnel over the summer months has continued to fall well behind last year’s record figures, according to the tunnel authority’s general manager (Mr L. E. Oliver).
Mr Oliver, tn a report to yesterday’s meeting of the authority, said that total tunnel-toll revenue for December last was down 10 per cent on December, 1974, while toll revenue for January was down 6 per cent.
The steepest falls were seen in goods tolls, which were down more than 30 per cent both in December and January.
However, figures for this month are a little more encouraging. according to rhe nutboritv’s chairman (Mr V. ,G Sniller). With the help of a 6.9 per cent increase in commercial traffic, total toll revenue for the month so far is up slightlv on February last year, in spite of a 3.4 per cent drop in the number of cars using the tunnel.
