Aust, win to Ken Smith
I (N.Z. Press Assn —Copyright) ADELAIDE. The New Zealand chani-l pion, Ken Smith, stormed to victory in a rain-soaked second round of the Rothmans international Formula 5000 series in Adelaide yesterday afternoon. Smith crossed the line less than four seconds ahead of the first-round winner, Vern Schuppan, and a lap ahead of the Sydney driver. John; Leiffler. The race started as a rain storm hit the flat Adelaide track and before it was over, the surface was awash with water and oil.
Another Sydney driver, John Goss, had to withdraw after covering half the distance when fie eased off in front of Schuppan coming out of the grandstand comer. Schuppan nudged Goss’s Matich A 53 into the wall but was able to race on.
