Present controls still in effect
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, Jan. 26.
A spokesman for the Prime Minister’s Department said tonight that regulations affecting unionemployer bargaining remained in effect. This meant that unions and employers were still subject to the 2.25 per cent wage-increase limitation unless parties to the negotiations gained approval from the Industrial Commission for a larger increase.
The spokesman said unions remained free to negotiate with employers in line with the terms of their present awards. At a press conference tonight, the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon), said the increase announced today was clearly not a longterm method of wage fixing. He said he had specifically excluded a wage and price freeze.
