MARKET CONFIDENCE SLOWS ON N.Z. EXCHANGES
The initial burst of market confidence which marked the beginning of the New Year, slowed down noticeably on New Zealand stock exchanges yesterday. Although rises outnumbered falls by nearly five to one, movements were generally small. The New Zealand United Corporation index fell 0.40 points, and trading quiet.

A total of 129,500 shares was sold on the New Zealand sharemarket yesterday, 65.500 fewer than on Thursday. Industrial issues totalled 125,300 (Thursday 185,600) and mining/oil 4200 (Thursday 10,000). A total of 92 New Zealand issues was traded. The five most active industrial issues were: N.Z.
