Stuff Crnpdl> LONDON Eric and Ernie have returned to British television with a new “Morecombe and Wise Show” series and the tag “undisputed ■ comedy kings of television”, following a Christmas Day show that attracted a claimed 28 million viewers — half the population of Britain and the biggest single television audience for eight years. The 8.8. C. is spreading out the new series, presenting the programmes at fortnightly intervals instead of weekly’ as previously. The opening 45-minute show featured pop star Gilbert O’Sullivan and highspot of the show was Eric and Ernie’s version of Dick Turpin, featuring Eric as the intrepid highwayman and Ernie as the captain of the Bow Street Runners.
