Diver takes spare leg
HAMILTON, Jan. 9. A Tauranga skindiver, Mr! W. Goldie, packs a spare leg with his wetsuit when he goes diving. He is the first amputee to! pass New Zealand’s strict! Deep Diving Certificate exam-! ination. He lost his left leg in a| hit-and-run accident three] years ago. and staff at the! Artificial Limb Centre, Auck-j land, adapted one of his artificial legs so that he could swim with it. It meant placing the foot! at a swimming angle and put-' ting two kilograms of lead in the calf to balance the buoy-1 ancy of the glass fibre. His! wet suit does not cover the! leg. so it can be quickly re-1 moved in an emergency. ________
