Hard solo climb made

A solo climb of Mount Nazomi (9716 ft threequarters of a mile south of the third peak of Mount Cook, was completed this week by Pete Moore, of Dunedin.

The deputy ranger at Mount Cook National Park Headquarters (Mr D. Massan) said that the climb was shown on the list of ascents at park headquarters as having been completed in nine hours. “It is a severe rock climb requiring a high degree of technical skill.” Mr Masson said.

“If the ascent was made — as was thought — by way of Mclnnes Ridge, a rib that (comes down into the Hooker (Valley, from the summit of Mount Nazomi, it was a very good climb,” he said.

About January 7, there was a grand traverse of Mount Cook by B. Barton and M. Sage, of Auckland. ,Two climbs of the Zurbriggen route on Mount Cook, (south of the Linda Glacier, [were accomplished by K. McNaughton and M. Seller, both of Australia, and G. and K. i Harrison, of Wellington. There was also a traverse of the 9915 ft Mount Hamilton, about a mile south-w’est of Hackle Peak, by A. Par-1 ton and J. Tobin, of Auck-I land.
