'Copter takes injured to hospital
GV.Z. Press Association* WANGANUI, Jan. 5. Two Waiouru Military Camp Iroquois helicopters today flew five seriously ill people to the Wanganui Base Hospital after a three-car collision six miles south of Waiouru, on State Highway One. The accident happened, about 2.30 p.m., on a tight; bend when two cars, one i carrying four Samoans, and; the other a mother and three children from Wellington., collided head-on. A third vehicle crashed) into the pile-up. but no-one; is believed injured from this;
The mother suffered a ruptured spleen, and her children, a girl, seven years and a half, facial injuries and a broken leg. a girl, aged five, ! a broken leg. and a boy, I aged four, broken leg and ribs.
A 39-year-old Samoan. Mr Siuleo Sauleosau, of Wellington. suffered a broken hip, and Mr Sau Laauli, aged 70. his wife, aged 64. and Mr Lolo Tafoa. of Wellington, had minor injuries. A Waiouru camp doctor,) l ieutenant Colonel J. Keane,! helped attend the victims, and his concern for the mother’s condition led him to; request the helicopters be ! used to transfer her and the. children to Wanganui.
