Beirut fighting

(N.Z.P.A.Reuter —Copyright) BEIRUT. Jan. 9. Beirut resounded to the familiar din of battle today as Palestinians and their Moslem allies fought to break a Right-wing blockade against a Palestinian refugee camp south-east of the capital. Fighting intensified last night in a semi-circle of Moslem and Christian suburbs to the east and south of the city, which is bordered on its other two sides by the Mediterranean Sea. Security forces said at least 25 people were killed in the fighting yesterday, and another five bodies — possibly victims of earlier clashes — were found.

Right-wing Falangist forces are fiercely resisting attacks by Palestinian and Moslem Leftists which could isolate several densely' populated Christian districts of Beirut. Tlie Leftists say their

operation has the limited aim of securing supply routes for the refugee camp at Tel Al-Zaatar, a shanty town inhabited by Palestinians and poor Lebanese which is taking a heavy bombardment from Falangist strongpoints in surrounding hills.
