Souvenirs on sale in aircraft
National Airways has given a Petone firm the right to sell a limited number of souvenirs to passengers on its aircraft. The items include a small Maori bust, a Maori plaque, cufflinks, a quartz ashtray, a plastic suit-cover, and an airline cabin bag. None of these souvenirs are actually sold on an aircraft. Passengers are provided with a catalogue listing 13 items. Orders, together with the cheques or money-orders, are then sent to the Petone firm. The airline receives a small commission in each sale. According to the airline’s southern region manager (Mr J. E. Davies) the new service, primarily aimed at the increasing number of overseas visitors, was introduced on December 19. Such souvenirs and small gifts are normally available on international flights, but this is the first time a New Zealand domestic carrier has offered this sort of service.
