New yard laws in Waimairi
The metrication of the Waimairi County Council’s district-planning scheme has been used as a chance to amend minimum side-yard requirements for flats and houses. The council’s chief building inspector (Mr E. Hughes) said yesterday that he had sent a letter to architects, builders, engineers, and others drawing their attention to the changes. The change that would
affect residential buildings altered the minimum for side-yards on front sections, and all yards on rear sections, from sft to 1.8 metres (sft Ilin). A height-control line from the boundaries, which could affect the width of side-yards, had also been introduced. The changes would be advertised at the beginning of April, and become effective from then, said Mr Hughes. The amended requirements would remain in force unless formal objections (by town-planning procedure) were upheld.
