Book on urban growth
(N.Z.P.A. Staff Crspdt) LONDON, January 8. A book on the development of residential areas, by David Thorne, a senior lecturer at the University of Auckland, who is researching new urban developments in New’ Zealand, will be published in London today. The book, “The Quest for Community,” is described as a “wide comparative study of residential area development.” Mr Thorne discusses aspects of residential growth from new towns to squatter settlements, from new housing estates to Kibbutzim. The publishers say that it is an important text for students of urban sociology, community studies, community work, urban geography, town planning, and environmental studies.
Mr Thorne, who is 32, and was born in Britain, took up his post at Auckland three years ago.
