Amies, aged 49. a , -•carpenter, of Oamaru. i A forest ranger at Minginui. about 65 miles south-east "iof Rotorua, heard a distress I message radioed from Perry Hut on the Heaphy Track last! ’evening and relayed it to the ’ ipolice. A helicopter tried to land - near the hut after midnight ’ ;but could not because of the: visibility. A second heli-: } (copter flew Mr Amies from ;jthe hut to Nelson Airport this • i morning. s He is in Nelson Hospital, , .but is expected to be released 1 ■in a few days. I
