Fin end of the wedge
(N.Z. Press Association) NELSON, Jan. 8. The British frigate H.M.S. Berwick had a stowaway on board when she arrived at Nelson today — a puffer fish. As the ship was leaving Hobart. Tasmania, her last port of call, one of the generators which sucks in water and pumps it through to cool the engines cut out unexpectedly. Immediately the frigate arrived at Nelson, divers went down to investigate the cause — and they found it. A puffer fish had got through the grating over the intake tube and then blown itself into a huge ball, making the inlet completely watertight. “Everything is all right now,” said one of the divers. “The puffer has been hacked into fish fingers.”
