Waggon Belle fit for Pahiatua

C The Press" Special Scruiccl PALMERSTON NORTH. Waggon Belle worked like a winner at Awapuni yesterday in her final trial for the Nursery Handicap on the second day of Hie Pahiatua meeting. She was a fast-finisliing second in her last start at Tauherenikau at tho New Year. Phoenix Lad was another to catch the eye yesterday. He shaded Nuriootpa at the end of a fast run 800 m and drew attention to liis prospects in the lan Taylor Handicap. Working on the course proper, Waggon Belle ran right away from Lucy Lee at the end of 800 m in 48see, the last 600 in 35.45ec. Phoenix Lad was a little better than Nuriootpa at the end of 800 m in 48.4 sec. the last 600 in 36sec. Phoenix Lad did not start on the first day because of his wide draw.
