Great chance for Kancho at Washdyke

If Kancho comes up with one of his peak runs it Washdyke tomorrow (hat should be adequate to give him a victory in the Highgate Handicap.

Although Mr K. M. Stevens' Culver Pick entire has. no recent form as a metric' two-miler he certainly hasj appealing credentials for the' first leg of the Timaru Trotting Club’s T.A.B. double. Kancho’s last four starts have yielded a win and two minor placings. Both of those placings were in sprint events —the most recent being at Addington Raceway last Friday night—and his victory was over 2600 metres in the Waimate Cup last month. The prospect of a Kancho

victory looked even brighter yesterday when Tudor Gold was scratched and J. A. Carmichael said that Edward Eden was to fulfil his engagement at Hutt Park tomorrow night.

With t/iese two out of the field fhe chances are that Kanch</s strongest rivals will be There And Back, Ad Infinitum. and True Fortune, one of two runners from the back mark of 20 metres.

There has been nothing encouraging about There and

Back’s latest form but if he comes up with a run like the one which gave him victory over Kancho at Orari late in November he should be involved in the finish. One l»a<l run The only recent bleak patch on Ad Infinitum’s record is his last-start failure at Addington Raceway on New Year’s Night. Perhaps, it was not surprising that he “blew out” there when having his first race for almost a month. Leading up to that lapse his record—which includes three wins this season—had been first-class. Although True Fortune will need plenty of luck in the running in a capacity field from his mark, he will command respect because of his recent form. Two starts back he was the best behind Bound To Be and Ryal Ann over tomorrow’s distance in the Rangiora Cup last month, and last time out chased Ryal Ann home over 2400 metres at Ashburton on Boxing Day. Did well .1. 1.. Ferguson, who will harness and drive True Fortune, will have pretty high hopes of taking out the second leg. the Kerrytown Handicap. with Prince Twinkle. This Local Light four-year-old did well to finish as close as seventh after a tardy beginning, last time out, at Ashburton on Boxing Day. That failure was preceded by a close second to Lady Jess at Rangiora and a victory over tomorrow's distance at Waimate last month. In a field not really strong in form runners the best of Prince Twinkle’s rivals will probably be Jenlight, Esteban, and Waragamba. The former will be trying to improve on a recent string of minor placings; Esteban appeals after two useful efforts at Addington at New Year and Warragamba will be trying to keep a winning record intact. He capped off a useful patch of place-form with a well-earned win against the class-two pacers at Addington Raceway on New Year’s Night.
