Reaction to P.M.’s wage hint
WELLINGTON, Jan. 8. Wage and salary earners have made enough sacrifices, according to the chairman of the Combined State Service Organisation (Mr 1. E. Reddish).
He said tonight that he was shocked by the comments of the Prime Minister (Mr Muldoon) that the forthcoming General Wage Order would not fully compensate for price increases in the last half-year.
The C.S.S.O. will meet next week to decide its attitude to the wage order before the final round of talks with the Government in two weeks. Mr Reddish said he disputed Mr Muldoon’s comment that people had had it too good in the last two years. “State servants have made plenty of sacrifices in the interests of the economy recently.
