New regimes
Sir. —“The Press” must admit the fairness of judging its views from more than one editorial. Surely, it is not I prepared to deny it takes a Right-wing point of view to-1 wards the Third World and; the international economic! order. My argument, is that! the present international 1 economic order is grossly un-: just; that poverty and starva-l tion are a violence suffered by hundreds of millions of people: and that the affluence of the rich depends upon the suffering of the poor. “The Press” has never, beyond pious platitudes, criticised this world-wide exploitation of the poor. It chooses to ignore a vast and, heavily documented litera-> »ure on the subject. There-' fore, in my opinion, it “double; thinks." As for the new; “Communist regimes” I de-; plore any inhumanity cur-i rently being perpetrated.' What also saddens me is that it is a direct legacy' of! opposition to Western self-I ishness and brutality.—l Yours, etc., DENNIS SMALL. January 7. 1976. Road toll.-— Up to noon yesterday six traffic deaths; had been reported this year; I to the Ministry of Transport.; At the corresponding time! Hast year the total was 13. — (P.A.)
