Akaroa oilers ample facilities for boating, water ski-ing and other sports. Boat launching: Access to the beach for boat launching is just south of Akaroa’s main wharf, while a concrete boat ramp lies at the seaward end of Rue Balgueri.
Water ski-ing: There are ski-ing lanes at Glen Bay (Akaroa), Children’s Bay (Akaroa), near the Takamatua wharf, to the north of Sandy Bay, off the east shore of Duvauchelle and at Wainui.
Swimming and surfing: The main beach is just south of the Akaroa Post Office and is safe and sheltered. For surf, one must go over the hill to Le Bons Bay or Okains Bay, Tennis: There are two asphalt courts on the sea front behind the Grand Hotel.
Golf: Turn up Pawsons Valley at the Duvauchelle Post Office, six miles from the Akaroa Post Office, for a good 18-hole course. Croquet: There are three courts next to the pavilion on the recreation ground. Bowls: The bowling green is near the recreation ground in Rue Jolie North.
