Olympics without frills
Visitors to the 1976 Olympics in Montreal. Canada, in July would have fewer expensive “frills” to go with the athletic contests, but those frills were unrealistic ■in the first place, the Cana-, ;dian High Commissioner (Mr C. E. Glover) said in Christchurch. Mr Glover was in the city; to open the “Portrait of; (Canada” photographic exhibition at the C.S.A. Gallery. “Certainly’ the Olympics; preparations have been dis-' appointing because of the grandiose planning of the [Montreal Mayor.” Mr Glover (said. ‘‘He had set his sights! far too high.” But the Quebec provincial ; government had taken control “and they will certainly see to it that facilities are ready in time.” he added. “Certainly, they will be without some of the fancy trimmings.” The Federal Government had consistently emphasised that the financially-troubled preparations were not a federal responsibility. but ’some funds might be available after the games “when: the huge bill is in.” Mr Glover said.
