G.B. II holds good lead

The British joint services yacht Great Britain II is holding a comfortable lead in the "Financial Times” Clipper Race and appears to be within range of the 69-dav record for the Sydney - j London voyage, according to the latest report issued bv race officials in Sydney. A radio report broadcast by the yacht’s British skip per, Roy Mullender, said 'Great Britain 11 was about mine days from rounding Cape Horn and was holding a 500-mile lead .over Anaconda 11, of Australia. The two smaller boats, the Italian schooner C.S. and R.B. Busnelli and the Dutch ketch Great Escape, were another 540 miles behind Anaconda, officials said. In Sydney Harbour, Kriter IL of France, which had to put back to harbour after losing her rudder 800 miles out from Sydney on Boxing Day. was due to go into dry dock yesterday for the fitting of a new rudder. The French skipper. Olivier de Kersuason. said it would be at least seven days [before Kriter could resume the race.
