Ari picked to win in Pahiatua Cup

WELLINGTON.

Ari, something of a specialist on the course, is expected to win the Pahiatua Cup at Woodville today.

Ari won both major handicaps ■ at the spring meeting at Woodville a few weeks ago. He has had two starts since for a sixth at Avondale and, when quite unsuited by the slushy ground, ran an honest fourth at Hastings last week. Sir Desmond, whose recent form has been excellent, and Duty Free, the top-weight, might: be the hardest for Ari to beat. ' The former won the Wairarapa | Cup last Thursday in his first i test in the top grade and Duty Free was a good third to i Europium on the same course last Saturday. The Pahiatua Cup will be the first leg of the T.A.B. double, the second leg is the Majuri, Intermediate for which Shelby, Hasty Arrow and Red Vista make most appeal.
