Yacht towed to safety

ty.Z. Press Association)

WELLINGTON, Jan. 6.

A 28ft yacht Kotiro, with two men aboard, is sheltering near Cape Palliser after being taken in tow by a Wellington fishing vessel yesterday.

The yacht was first sighted in difficulties by a camper at Palliser Bay and he ran several miles to alert the keeper at the Cape Palliser Lighthouse. Soon after his arrival there the yacht sent up a distress flare. A message was transmitted on the emergency band from the lighthouse and the trawler San Antonio, which was in the area, heard the call, and took the yacht under tow. The Kotiro was said to be at the mercy of the sea, with! her sails blown out.

A Ministry of Transport spokesman said today that a northerly gale was keeping both boats from sailing but added that they were in no donger. It is not yet known where the yacht was from or w'here she was bound.
