TV skit called disgusting
(From Our Own Reporter) GREYMOUTH, December 28. The Mayor of Greymouth (Mr O. H. Jackson) has described as “a disgusting lapse of good taste and common decency to our Sovereign and national leaders” the “Christmas Pudding” skit on TVI on Christmas Day.
“It was appalling to view a Christmas pudding surmounted by a crown and mimicking the Queen within an hour and a half of Her Majesty’s Christmas message, and also similar treatment to the Prime Minister and the Leader of the Opposition,”
Mr Jackson said. “West Coasters generally are loyal people, and we are proud to be associated with [the Prime Minister’s loyal message to the Royal Family lon his appointment,” said Mr IJackson. “If he allows such satire, mimically in poor taste, to go unchecked, his (message must appear hypocritical and empty. "At a time when world ‘ leaders, national leaders, and [those in authority are en'deavouring to influence the [youth of this age in the ideals [of common good, it is high [time that television took a good look at itself, and make [changes that will suit the people before the people take] a hand in the matter — fori when the pendulum swings.. ■it usually swings the full; [arc,” Mr Jackson said. “I emphatically protest [against that part of the pro-] gramme, and accordingly:
have written to the Minister of Broadcasting (Mr Templeton), the Wellington station . manager, and have also sent ' a copy to the GovernorGeneral as the Queen's representative,” he Said.
