Man dies in race crash
*• Z Press Association) WELLINGTON. Dec. 28. A young Tauranga man, Garry Robert Thompson, aged 23, died when he lost control of his motor-cycle in the Wellington motorcycle grand prix at Lower Hutt today. About 2000 spectators saw' Thompson clip a curbing and tumble off his Kawasaki 750 into the path of fellow competitors It was Thompson's first race outside his home track, Bay Park. Mount Maunganui. and it seemed that he lost control of his machine on the greasy surface, an official said. He veered across the track at about 130 kilometres an hour, bounced off the curb, and was hit by motor-cycles. No-one else was injured in the accident. .Mr Thompson was dead on arrival at Hutt Hospital.
