December 28 Ihe huge Maui oil platform and its support craft were forced out of the South Taranaki Bight on Christmas Day by gales and high seas and sheltered in Golden Bay. Plans to up-end the platform tower over the drill site had to be postponed. By this morning, however, the weather looked reasonably settled, and the tower, towed by two salvage tugs, moved out of Golden Bay.
