Actress gets two years
Six persons were! (Sentenced to a total of 21 years imprisonment when they appeared for sentence yesterday in four separate heroin and cannabis cases the Press Association reports. In the Supreme Court at Auckland, a 33-year-old aci tress, Janice Patricia Gray,; was sent to gaol for two years by Mr Justice Speight I for importing cannabis. His Honour said that the case illustrated that there ; was a chain of supply importing drugs into New Zealland. ‘‘lf it is not stopped (young people will be deibauched.” In the Supreme Court at Wellington two American [citizens were each sentenced Ito four years gaol by Mr ! Justice O'Regan on a charge of possession of 1140 cannabis sticks worth a total I of $25,000 for purposes of I supply. His Honour said that he would recommend their deportation to the Minister of Immigration and would also direct that a record of their sham marriages to New Zealanders for the purpose of entering the country be forwarded to the Minister. Supreme Court at Auckland, sentenced two men to 31 years gaol each for supplying and selling heroin to a policeman. Dennis Alan Jephson and Edward Bruce Hammond both pleaded guilty. In the Supreme Court at Wellington Wayne Beecroft, aged 22, a musician, was sentenced to four years gaol by Mr Justice Quilliam on a charge of selling heroin.
