TOWN HALL FIRE
Four fire engines were called to the Christchurch Town Hall at 8 p.m. on Thursday after sparks from a welder set fire to lagging round a pipe in the basement of the building. The fire caused only slight damage to the lagging before it was extinguished by firemen using internal hosereels. The building did not have to be evacuated, a brigade spokesman said.
