Barbecue fire restrictions
Recommendations that the fire restriction on barbecues and thermettes be lifted under certain conditions in the Ellesmere county were rejected by the County Council on Monday. The County Engineer (Mr C. L. Tapper) said that the council was not prepared to allow barbecue fires because of very rapid drying-off in the county and the fire hazard presented by I trees which had fallen during winter storms. The only time barbecues could be lit was between 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. when burning off restrictions were lifted, he said.
