Price of “Press”
The price of “The Press” will be raised from 8c to 10c a copy from December 29. The increase, which has been approved by the Department of Trade and Industry, is based on a substantial rise in the price of newsprint which took effect from December 1. The new price for Tasman newsprint is $228.63 a tonne, which is an increase of 17.85 per cent on the previous price. The cost of newsprint has risen by more than 43 per cent since late 1974. All newspapers in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, have now announced increases to 10c a copy. Most other dailv papers will also ■rise to 10c, but some provincial newspapers at present selling for 7c will be priced at 9c from December! 29.
