R.C.s back school integration
(N.Z. Press Association) WELLINGTON, December 14. The Roman Catholic Bishop’s conference has accepted the principles of the Private Schools Conditional Integration Act.
In a statement read in churches throughout the country today, the Roman Catholic Archbishop of Wellington (The Most Rev. R. J. Delargey), and the four other Roman Catholic bishops said the act was compatible with the essential principles of the Church’s education.
“However, there are certain aspects of the act we find less than satisfactory,” the statement said. “Some of these relate to our schools and some to the position of other independent schools and the teachers employed by them. “We hope that as the principles of the act are brought into operation, these inadequacies will be able to be rectified to our satisfaction and to that of other independent schools and teaching bodies.”
