George Burns wins award
(X Z.P.A.-Reuter) HOLLYWOOD The American vaudeville, television, and radio comedian. George Burns, aged 75. having acted in his first major film role for nearly 40 years, has been named “Star of the Year” by the Hollywood Women’s Press Club. Mr Bums, star of the comedy, “The Sunshine Boys.” said on accepting the Golden Apple Award: “It just shows that if you hang around long enough you are bound to be discovered.” The veteran Hollywood actress, Katherin Hepburn, was named the woman star of the year. The club, which in the past has handed out “sour apples” to Frank Sinatra and Jane Fonda for conduct considered unbecoming to Hollywood, made no such award this year.
