The General Election
Sir, — I wish to thank Cedric Mentiplay for producing such a fine word picture of Mr Muldoon. I am sure the whole country is heartily sick of the caricatures of him that are constantly thrust at us. In all my 70odd years I have never before seen an election where the Government has picked on the Opposition leader in such a crude and spiteful way as has been done this time. Throughout the campaign Mr Muldoon has taken it all like the Christian gentleman that he is at heart. If the Labour Party really cares for the country it will now give the Prime Minister a chance to make his decisions in peace and cease to create further illwill. — Yours, etc., B. MURRAY. December 9, 1975. Sir, — Surely M. Haslam has been listening with prejudiced ears to Mr David Exel’s remark “it is sad.” Giving the words used a nimble twist making it appear Mr Exel was sad at the defeat of the Labour Government (which he may or may not be) but rather was he “sad” the Prime Minister-elect found it necessary to issue a general invitation to resign to many people in responsible positions. Scarcely the benign figure we are invited to believe him to be. — Yours, etc.. B. BRADLEY. December 9, 1975.
