Art gallery to continue
The Central Canterbury Electric Power Board’s old power-house at Akaroa, which has been used for the last five years as a gallery for art exhibitions and concerts, is to continue although the lessees are leaving. Mr and Mrs Kobi Bosshard, who ran the gallery, are' leaving the district, and the 1 'board, at its meeting yester-] day, accepted a cancellation! I of their lease, and asked the staff to negotiate a new lease! with Mrs L. Armstrong! (Akaroa) and Mr and Mrs P.l Walton (Robinson’s Bay), who' will carry on the venture. Mr Bosshard asked for compensation for improvements, but Mr D. O. Masefield said he had been given a low rent and this compensated for the value of work that was of no use to the board. He said he would like to see a low rent given to the ■new tenants, so that they i could make similar improve- ■ ments. i Long-service. — Presentations were made to two employees who have been with the board’for 20 years. They I were Mr B. Forbes, in charge
of the draughting office, and Mr R. Clayton, staff training officer. Leeston, — The board granted Mr K. Chamley a lease of the front part of its old offices at Leeston for his hardware business, and was told that a boutique would probably open there in March.
High banks. — The Diamond Harbour Burgesses’ 'Association wrote saying residents were concerned that ! banks up to 10ft high on I Marine Drive might collapse, 'bringing down power poles. (The Chief Engineer (Mr P. D. I Rutledge) said the position iwas being discussed wth the j Lyttelton Borough Council.
