Arab Olympic plot suspected
X.I.P .4 Reuter—Copynyht; TORONTO. Oct. 27.
The “Toronto Globe and Mail” reports that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is investigating a conspiracy by at least 14 Arab-Canadians to help foreign agents to perpetrate a terrorist act at the Olympic Games in Montreal in 1976.
The newspaper says in a copyright story that Federal officials and police sources have stated that the R.C.M.P. knows the identities of people suspected of the conspiracy, but lack enough evidence to lay charges. The sources are quoted as saying that the alleged conspirators know that
police are aware of their plans, but that this does not appear to have dissuaded them.
The terrorists are expected to enter Canada at Windsor, Ontario, or Vancouver. and move on to Montreal, using “safe houses” provided by ArabCanadian suoporters of the Palestine Liberation Organisation and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine, the newspaper says.
It quotes the authorities as saying that a key man in the plot was employed for a time by the Olympic Games organising committee, when he had access to confidential site and security plans.
