Death of Labour stalwart
Cyril George James Shamy, a former public relations officer for BP (N.Z.) Ltd, died in Christchurch on October 26.
A justice of the peace, Mr! Shamy worked for BP ini Wellington, and in Christ-j church from 1958 to 1967.; He later joined Hutchinson Motors as sales promotion manager. He was the New Zealand organiser fpr the Labour Party in 19a5 and unsuccessfully stood for Parliament in the Otaki electorate in 1957. In 1969 Mr Shamy organised Mr R. P. B. Drayton’s campaign for St. Albans. He was the Christchurch Labour Party’s chairman from 197172, and in 1972 was responsible for the Labour Party’s General Election organisation in the Christchurch area. He was also area; officer for the Labour Party. < Mr Shamy was a lay i I preacher in the Methodist Church, and he was closely connected with the Christchurch Central Mission. Mr Shamy was born in Christchurch on May 25, 1926. He is survived by his ' wife, and two sons.
