Work to begin on Maruia TV
By KEN COATES The long-suffering television viewers in the Maruia Valley are delighted. A start has been made on the provision of a new translator to serve the 200 viewers in the area. Admittedly it is only the road up the hill to the new site on the property of Mr
R. Sutherland which has been started, but viewers see this as encouraging. “Excellent progress has been made by the contractor doing the work. Mr B. Waghorn, of Reefton,” said the chairman of the Maruia Television Action Group (Mr John Hewison). 1 “We are hoping that the -Council will maintain the rapid progress made so far, and that the necessary permission will be given without delay for a hut to be constructed and electricity brought in.” Siting a new $27,000 translator mid-way up the Maruia Valley will mean a great deal for the Maruia viewers. Their existing translator 5000 ft up on Mount Mantell has frequently been put out of action by lightning, and repairs have been difficult, slow and costly. The new translator should give the viewers a satisfactory TVI service and later additional equipment will pro-; vide a TV2 picture.
