BASKETBALL ENTRIES
A record number of 63 i teams — 39 of men and 24: of women — has entered for the Canterbury Basketball Association’s summer league inter-club competition which begins in Cowles Stadium tonight.
In the mens A section, five of the six teams which contested the 1975 winter: championship have entered. Mairehau is the only one missing. The field has been brought up to eight with the inclusion of three B grade
teams — Y.M.C.A B. Aranuii A. and Checkers B. The! i others in the contest are the 1 reigning champions. High} School Old Boys. Y.M.C.A.! }A, Checkers A, Burnside A, and University. The womens A section; consists of Checkers A, Uni-i versity. United A, United B,j United-Telstar, Burnside A. I iMairehau. and Crickets A. Both men's and women’s! A sections will be played on! ! Boxing.— The Com-! monwealth middle-weight champion. Monty Beetham. i has been offered the richest! prize of his career to fight! Carlos Marks of the West! Indies in a title defence in Trinidad.
