APPRENTICE TO APPEAL
(W.Z.P.A Staff Crspdt) SYDNEY. The New Zealand apprentice jockey, Brian Harris, is to appeal against a two-year suspension imposed yesterday by Melbourne stewards for his riding of Tossa at Moonee Valley last week. Tossa ran some 30 lengths behind the pacemakers in the Lindsay Gordon Steeplechase, and It was only in the last 800 m that he moved up quickly to finish fifth. Harris was charged with improper practice, and a hearing was held over three days this week. Stewards exonerated Tossa’s trainer, J. W. McGreal, and said thev accepted evidence of stable betting on Tossa which was tendered by McGreal’s brother Pat. Are challenge.—The topclass American colt, Intrepid Hero, has arrived in Paris to contest the Prix de I’Arc de Triomphe tomorrow. Twenty-six horses are left in the $232,000 race, with Allez France the hot favourite to repeat her triumph of last year and become the first dual winner since the mighty Italian colt. Ribot.
