Innovation in bowk
Gold stars, for five championship titles, are usually awarded in bowls at only the national and centre levels. However, Elmwood, one of the larger Canterbury clubs, will break new ground this year as far as the province is concerned by introducing a gold star at the club level. The five present members who qualify will receive their stars at the club's opening today. They are Russell Norris, Bill Newburgh, Mick McDonald, Bob Mahalm and Gig Thomas.
Thomas will not be playing at Elmwood this season, although he is a life member of the club. The secretary for the last 14 years, he moved to Rangiora a few months ago and has joined the Rangiora club.
