Situation: A large, complex depression in the Tastnan sea is moving slowly east on to New Zealand. A ridge of high pressure is spreading on to the south of the South Island. Forecasts: Marlborough, Nelson, Buller, Westland: north-easterlies,

mainly moderate; periods of rain, easing only slowly; moderate temperatures. Canterbury: south-easterlies, mainly moderate but fresh on the coast; cloudy and c,ool. with scattered showers. Outlook: little change in Can« terbury; clearing elsewhere.
