* Situations Vacant New Zealand Mb/Forest Service FORESTRY TRAINEES , VACANCY No. 32 THE FOREST SERVICE invites applications for ' the initial intake of Forestry Trainee to commence , in January, 1976. , Future separate intakes of a Ranger and Forester > Trainees have been discontinued and the 1976 intake of Forestry Trainees will specifically replace . the 1976 intake of Ranger Trainees, and the 1977 intake of Forester Trainees. Forestry Trainees commence a career aimed to develop them towards eventually occupying senior ; management, technical and administrative positions in the N.Z. Forest Service. ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should be under 20 years of age and physically fit. The minimum education standard is study at Form VI level in English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry, and it is preferable that those contemplating University study ' have continued these subjects in Form VII. Trainees are appointed to the permanent staff at a salary commensurate with their educational qualifications. * TRAINING: Training commences with an induction course at the Forestry Training Centre, Rotorua, in Jan- ■ uary, 1976. This is followed by a year’s work on forests gaining an appreciation of basic forestry work practices. At the end of this year, Forestry Trainees are selected to continue their training either by University study as Forester Trainees, of by study for a Technicians Certification Authority Certificate as Ranger Trainees. Those who attend University undertake the four year course for the Bachelor of Forestry Science degree, with further practical training during long vacations. These trainees while attending University in their first three years receive a Public Service study award of $500.00 a year, in addition to those Education Department bursaries to which they are entitled. Full salary is ; paid during the final academic year, and for all long vacations. A bond to serve for five years in ■ the Public Service upon completion of the degree ! is required. Those studying for the T.C.A Forestry Certifl- • cate undertake this course during their remaining ' three years of training. They work on forests and study for their Certificate by attending block courses at the Forestry Training Centre, along with some correspondence study. Box 943, Rotorua. ■ JUNIOR WOODSMEN Vacancy No. 27 ■ Woodsmen are employed in all aspects of forest work in all parts of New Zealand. Woodsmen can, after their initial training, gain further specialised work experience and can advance with experience and demonstrated ability, to supervisory and management positions. ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants should be physically fit and of 16 i to 18 years of age. It is preferred that applicants have three years secondary education and a strong outdoor interest. TRAINING: Training commences in January each year at i one of the four training schools located at Aupouri ' near Kaitaia, Kaingaroa near Rotorua, Golden , Downs near Nelson and Berwick near Dunedin. The training period is for three years, two : years at a school and one year on forests. j The training is arranged to provide a complete , rotation of all essential jobs to develop practical . skills.
