Canadian post to Chch man
A noted soil scientist who was educated in Christchurch, Professor G. K. Rutherford, was installed recently as president of the Canadian Society of Soil Science for 1975-76.
Professor Rutherford was educated at St Andrew’s College, Canterbury University and the Agricultural [University in Norway. He [has not visited New Zealand [for some years. [ Since 1970, Professor Rutherford has been professor of soil science at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario. Before going! to Canada he made soil and! resource surveys in Scandi-I navia, the West Indies, South [ America, Australia and New Guinea. Professor Rutherford is also president of the International Soil Science Society’s working group in soil micromorphology. He is helping to prepare the next International Soil Science Congress which is to be held in Edmonton, Alberta, in 1978.
Comoros hope The Comoro Islands,; which declared independence from France last July, have decided to apply for admission to the United Nations. Letters have been sent to the U.N. Secretary-General (Dr Kurt Waldheim) and President Giscard d’Estaing of France, informing them of the decision, and telegrams to the Islamic League, the Conference of Non-aligned Nations and the Organisation of African Unity, asking for support. — Moroni. Jungle find Malaysian security forces have found two unoccupied Communist guerrilla camps in the Sungei Siput jungles, about 100 miles north of Kuala Lumpur.
