Iron ore cartel planned
(N.Z. Press Association) BLACKPOOL (England), October 1. Some of the world’s major exporters of iron ore, including Australia, are expected to set up an association to raise and regulate international prices, according to the Associated Press.
Diplomats and Government officials attending the annual convention of the Labour Party said that the nations concerned hope to hold initial talks on ' the subject in London late this month.
Among countries involved in the project, are several Commonwealth States — India, Australia and Canada. Other major exporting countries also expected to attend include Brazil and Mauritania.
The underlying idea is that the iron-ore producing states should build their association on the model of 0.P.E.C., which has achieved a five-fold raise in fuel prices since October, 1973.
