Fine run by Jutland
(“The Press" Special Service) PALMERSTON NORTH. Jutland was one of the most impressive workers at Awapunl yesterday morning in his final trial for the second day at Otaki tomorrow. He is engaged In the Rangiruru Malden and should make amends for last week a Trentham failure, when he received a shocking run. Jutland went with Young John, another likely to do better on the firmer Otaki ground thia week. Their stablemate. Black Willow, showed further signs of improvement when galloping in preparation for the Wehlpeihana Memorial.
- The session was the busiest for months and the ground on the course proper was perfect. The plough was also used and provided good footing. On the course proper Jutland was doing a little better -than Young John at the end of 1000 m In 1:5.8, the last 600 in 38.4. Jutland was most impressive. He was cheeked badly last week and no notice should be taken of that run. Young John is In fine heart for his clash with Varnamo in the Otaki Handicap. NEAR PEAK Black Willow reeled oil the last 1100 of 1000 m in 51. the last 600 in 37.4. The mare Is close to her best after a useful run at Trentham. She could be very close at the end of the Ruhl Wehipeihana Memorial. Nuriootpa shaded Sonkar at the end of a fast 1200 m in 1:47. the last 600 In 402. They went very fast early then eased dewn Nuriootpa has had a quiet time since the Hawke’s Bay Guineas. He is in the Wehlpeihana Memorial and would not have to Improve much on bls Hawke's Bay form to be hard to beat.
Placed at trials.—Storm Dust, not Appeal, finished third in the qualifying race for trotters at Methven on Tuesday. A three-vear-old filly by Pacific Hanover from Senatus, she gained a B--1 grade qualifying ticket.
